MESSAGE FROM THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Robin Tillotson
JANUARY 2012

There is nothing like a new and fresh start!  The new year provides us all with the opportunity to reassess what new and exciting things we’d like to experience in 2012.  Some of you will target health and weight loss/maintenance as a goal; some of you will seek new opportunities to volunteer and some of you will embark on learning a new skill. 

Here at the Atlas Center, we are vowing to identify new and innovative approaches to serve you better!  After an overwhelming response to the 2011 Zumba class offering, we will be offering that class, again, along with an advanced Zumba Gold class in July.  Now, you will be able to dance and burn those calories at an even higher rate!

 

On the weekends, a “Chinese Paper Cuts” workshop, will be offered in August, and we are most excited offering “Karaoke for Seniors” on several dates from June through December.

The budget proposed by Governor Pat Quinn is bad news for seniors struggling to remain in their homes as they age. The proposed budget eliminates a critical pharmaceutical assistance program and cuts funding for home delivered meal services. It will also cut funding for other home and community
based services that keep people from being forced into costly institutions and funding that provides property tax relief to
thousands of seniors who live on fixed incomes.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD NOW!
Call your representative today at 1.800.664.9903 and tell them to stop cuts to critical senior services.  Cutting these services will push people into costly nursing homes, take meals off the tables of struggling seniors, and attempt to balance the budget on the backs of seniors that need help paying for their medications.

Zumba is an aerobic exercise program that
fuses Latin and international rhythms with

Tai Chi for Seniors

Every Tuesday - 12:50-2:00pm Room 2
This exercise can be thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. Join us and discover the benefits for yourself. You will be surpised! Tai Chi imrpoves your balance, calms your mind, relaxes and energizes your body. We invite you to try it Tuesdayday afternoons. Donation $2.0 per class.
